Reiki Principles

What are Reiki Principles and Reiki Mindfulness, and why should you care?

Reiki Mindfulness is the active expansion of the Reiki principles to question, challenge and change our thoughts, feelings and actions, which contribute to unhappiness, self-sabotage and dis-ease. The principles are simple affirmations created by the founder of Reiki healing, Dr Usui. He created the principles after he realised that although Reiki healed, that healing was being undone when the person’s thoughts and actions which caused the illness remained the same.

Do you need to be a Reiki healer to benefit from the practice of Reiki Mindfulness?

Actually, you do not need to be a Reiki healer to benefit from Reiki Mindfulness you can practice it without ever having a Reiki healing or becoming a Reiki healer. That said it works very well with Reiki healing and the combination of the two are most beneficial.

Reiki Mindfulness, is borne out of the Reiki Principles, and the understanding of the importance and daily application of the Principles to help improve and maintain wellbeing and balance.

The original version of Reiki Principles

Just for today, do not worry

Just for today, do not anger

Just for today, I will be grateful

Just for today, show kindness to all living things

Just for today, I will do my work honestly

Reiki Mindfulness version

I have altered the wording for the original principles for a more positive affirmation.

Just for today, let go of worry

Just for today, let go of anger

Just for today, I am grateful

Just for today, show kindness and compassion to all living things

Just for today, I do my work honestly

Why are Reiki Principles important?

Reiki healing helps to bring us back into balance. The healing doesn’t change our behaviour patterns, habits, thoughts or how we respond mentally and emotionally to things. Reiki doesn’t make us eat healthier or change our lifestyle, so it is more balanced.

If we keep doing the things we were doing before we have received a course of Reiki healing without making changes, we will manifest the same or similar problem/illness again.

Dr Usui created the principles when we found that the people he was healing with Reiki (beggars etc. 0 get info) he was seeing that they were ending up back where they started, and he realised that they needed a positive behavioural framework to create healthier and self caring ways of thinking, feeling and acting.

Working with the Reiki Principles as mindfulness tools, we become aware of the patterns /actions/thoughts and feelings which cause imbalances and disease. We can create healthier thinking patterns and make mindful choices about what we want to do and not do.

Reiki Principles Just for today, be kind.

We are all capable of being kind and unkind. Often it is easier to be kind when we are happy, free from stress and generally in a good place. Being kind and compassionate can become more challenging when we are tired or busy or experiencing low vibrational energy, such as frustration, stress, loss, and anger.

The person we are usually most unkind to is ourselves, most obviously with how we speak to ourselves internally.

This Reiki precept is the practice of developing our kindness and compassion muscle to become kinder and more compassionate in the most difficult of times, to others without expectation of reward and to ourselves.

Reiki Principles Just for today, be grateful.

Practising gratitude raises your vibration, makes you feel good and improves your outlook and quality of life if practised regularly.

If you have never practised this before or are in a difficult situation, trying to feel grateful may feel hollow and unnatural initially. Still, regular gratitude practice helps train the mind to re-focus on the positive aspects of life and begin to experience conscious pleasure from them, regardless of what is going on in your life.

The first step is finding five things a day we are grateful for when we wake up and go to sleep.

Reiki mindfulness is about growing gratitude in our daily lives and practising to help us live a richer happier life regardless of our circumstances.

Just for today I do my work honestly

Just for today. I do my work honestly. This Reiki Principle is about being true to ourselves when we are in society, be it work with family friends and associates. Conducting yourself in a way that is honest and moral which is coherent with your true beliefs and values will lead to a less complicated and harmonious existence. We often compromise our actions, thoughts and behaviour to get along, get ahead, for the easy route, to make others happy. In the long run when we compromise ourselves too much it can be damaging to our spirit.

Just for today let go of anger

This principle begins with observing anger, where does it come from and what ignites it? How does anger manifest inside us, what is the story we are telling ourselves? We don’t have enough time, that others or thoughtless or drive badly. Maybe we are angry at ourselves. Working with this Reiki principle helps us to challenge our thought patterns which often run on auto pilot stirring our emotions to push us into action.

Just for today let go or worry

“Worrying is like praying hard for something you don’t want to happen”. Robert Downey Jr.

I love this quote it encapsulates what worrying does perfectly. Every time we worry we are putting the energy out into the universe creating what we don’t want to happen. Reiki mindfulness brings into focus how much time we actually spend thinking about what we don’t want to happen. By shifting our focus on what we do want, and of course mitigating the possibilites of what we don’t want we create a more positive outlook and give more energy into creating the future we do want.

Reiki mindfulness is not a counselling service and should not be used instead of medical help. Reiki mindfulness is to help improve our lives to live in a more mindful way where we observe thoughts more and ‘react’ less.
