what is reiki therapy

What is Reiki therapy, and is it different to Reiki healing?

Reiki Therapy combines Reiki treatment and coaching using the framework of the Reiki principles to help a person empower themselves emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually.

Reiki Healing

Reiki is a healing modality that channels universal energy from the healer to the client. A Reiki healer is attuned to receiving the universal energy so that they may direct it through them. Reiki flows into the recipient’s auric field and then into their physical body and flows through the meridian paths (these are the energy pathways which acupuncturists and other healing modalities use to rebalance the body) clearing blocks and rebalancing the energy so that it flows better through the body.

Reiki healing is focused on rebalancing the person in the session so that they are functioning better emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually. Reiki Therapy extends from this and helps individuals take control of their overall health and well-being by providing a framework to help change habits, thoughts, behaviours and beliefs that create blockages and dis-ease in the body. The foundation of Reiki Therapy is in the Reiki Principles developed by the original master Dr Usui, to help his clients stay well and live well once they had received Reiki Healing.

Reiki therapy evolved from my observations of Reiki’s lack of long-lasting impact, not because Reiki is ineffective, but because the behaviour, situation or thinking that caused the problem has remained the same. To prevent a problem from reoccurring, the person has to look at what they can do to prevent it from manifesting again. It is like any treatment, holistic or allopathic. If a person’s behaviour, lifestyle, emotions and thoughts that made them ill do not change, then the healing that they have received with helping them for a short while, but the behaviour will, over time, erode the recovery.

Reiki therapy is not psychotherapy or counselling. That said a, client might decide when they start working on themselves that some sessions with a therapist would help.

Reiki therapy is about using the reiki principles as a foundation to expand a method of self-healing practices. It is about being more mindful and present so we become aware of our thoughts, actions and reactions, which are detrimental, so we can challenge them and reframe how we think, react and act.

What does a typical Reiki Therapy course look like?

Unlike a typical Reiki healing session, I ask for some information before the healing session to understand what you want to achieve or what you see as an issue.

Reiki Healing combined with Reiki Principles/mindfulness coaching.

It begins with the healing session which is carried out with the clients intention to resolve the problem they are having issues with, the average number of sessions required is 3. There may be times when more sessions are required; for example, for someone living under challenging conditions, caring for a chronically ill family member or in financial hardship, regular healing is a great help in managing well-being, balance and comfort.

The client will be given exercises and or task to carry out in-between sessions.

Reiki therapy provides tools for clients to reflect and challenge their thinking and behaviour. The tools vary to accommodate different dispositions and needs, from active mindfulness and breathing techniques to relaxation exercises.

Reiki therapy is about giving clients the tools and coaching them to use them to achieve their goals.
